Trick Dog and Scent Work are popular dog competition disciplines requiring an exceptional bond between human and canine. They are classed as performance sports and showcase the handler’s training, the dog’s ability and willingness to please along with the skill the pair have to work as a team.

This great initiative celebrates man's best friend and the incredible bond that exists between dogs and humans. Each year we launch a search for a ‘Canine Hero’ in two categories, ‘Service Dog’ and ‘Companion Dogs’.

These dogs could have performed a remarkable feat in the trained service of people, such as search, rescue or therapy, or they could be a treasured pet who has saved a life.

Our winners are crowned on Best in Show Day and each receive a prize of $1500 thanks to the Australasian Animal Registry.

A household name since 2006, he has appeared regularly on TV in shows like Big Brother, Dancing with the Stars, and Australian Story, and hosted the internationally acclaimed documentary Dingo: Wild Dog at War. Dave is a regular at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

The smallest stowaways to arrive with the First Fleet, mice are friendly, every bit as intelligent as dogs, and are highly social little creatures. First formed in 1932, the NSW Police Dog Unit operates with the mission to make the streets safer and reduce the fear of crime. Police handlers from this Unit show off the skills and tricks their dogs use to fight crime and you won’t believe what they can do.
