In the tree felling competition the competitor chops notches in a tree/log and inserts a board into the cut. The board is then used as a platform in order to cut higher up the tree.

This is done three times in order to get to the top of the tree and cut, before coming back down and starting again on the opposite side – eventually the competitor is back at the top and cutting all the way through so that the top of the tree falls to the ground.

Stop by the District Exhibits display to experience a game of lawn bowls like no other! Using little blue pumpkins as bowling balls, and an onion for a jack, the district court members engage in a competitive battle to take home the prestigious Pumpkin Bowling Trophy.

Pumpkin bowling has been an ‘unofficial’ category of the District Exhibits competition since the 1980’s. However, it is believed the tradition may have begun much earlier, when the Show didn’t open till lunch time on Good Friday and District Court members were looking for a way to pass the time.

There is in fact no skill involved, any of the Court Members will tell you that it has nothing to do with playing good bowls, it’s just sheer luck. Come and cheer for your favourite district court!

Rodeos were introduced at the Show in 1931 and ever since, the horses, riders, bulls, clowns, and crowds have kept coming back for more.

For six nights only, man takes on beast to prove once again that the Australian way of rodeo is hold-your-breath, edge-of-your-seat, non-stop thrills and spills of the Bull Ride, Bareback, and the famous Saddle Bronc.

It’s not all just fun and games out there, points earned during competition at the Sydney Royal Easter Show go toward riders’ National standings.

In 2025, Women’s breakaway roping event will be included as a new event in the rodeo series.
